WORST MOVIES EVER BLOGFEST

This awesome blogfest is being hosted by Alex over at Alex J Cavanaugh

I like to be entertained, and movies are a great way to achieve that goal.  Still, some movies really suck.  Here are a few that made me curse in several languages.

1. KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE.

Aliens who look like clowns come from outer space to terrorize a small town.  Are you freakin kidding me?  This was the most God-awful movie I've ever watched.

2. MARS ATTACKS.

The Earth is invaded my Martians.  They torture and kill.  Okay, I know a lot of people liked this movie, but I have to disagree.  (My husband still makes me do the alien voices.)  I don't care how many top paid actors or good-looking Pierce Brosnans you stick in there, I really hated this movie.

3. WORLD'S GREATEST DAD.

A comedy about a man who learns that the things you want most may not be the things that make you happy, and that being lonely is not necessarily the same as being alone.  This is not a comedy.  It is a depressing movie.  I love Robin Williams in everything else except this.  His son is obnoxious.  The best part of the movie was the end because it's all about a writer who wants to be published.  Seriously, if you're going to watch it, fastforward to the end.

4. Bewitched

Everyone knows the show, right?  The cute witch marries the human.  I loved the show.  Then they went and made this movie with Will Ferrell acting like an idiot.  The witch wasn't even called Samantha.  Pisses me off when they mess with a good thing.  The only plus of this movie was Shirley MacLain as Andora, but I like her in all her movies.

5. INDECENT PROPOSAL.

A woman cheats on her husband for a million dollars.  Seriously, this is supposed to be a cool movie?  Granted there's a lot of money involved.  And Robert Redford is hot, but come on.  Then at the end she goes back to her husband and they start over like if nothing happened.  The whore cheated on you and you agreed to it for money.  You pimped her out you schmuck.  Yeah, I did't care for this movie.

6. KINGPIN.

A star bowler whose career was prematurely "cut off" hopes to ride a new prodigy to success and riches.  All with me now.  "Stupid.  Stupid."  I used to like Woody Harrelson until I was coersced into watching this movie.  It was plain disgusting.  How do writers come up with this crap?  (Man, I'm a harsh critic.)

7. THE CABLE GUY

A lonely and disturbed cable guy raised on television just wants a new friend, but his target, a designer, rejects him, with bad consequences.  Let me start by saying that Jim Carrey usually makes me laugh, but I thought he was the biggest jackass in this movie, which probably means he played the part well.  Still, the movie made my crap list.

8.  THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET.

A mute alien is chased by outer-space bounty hunters through the streets of Harlem in this thought-provoking cult classic.  (Thought-provoking my ass.)  Yeah, I was wondering why he couldn't talk, why an alien would be an idiot, and why the heck he snorted coke?  As a sworn Sci-Fi lover, I felt betrayed.

9. FREDDY GOT FINGERED.

An unemployed cartoonist moves back in with his parents and younger brother Freddy. When his parents demand he leave, he begins to spread rumors that his father is sexually abusing Freddy.  This is just plain sick, and I value myself as having an open mind.  I lasted five minutes with this movie and counted it as a not worthy of anything.  I apologize for even mentioning it.

10. VAMPIRES SUCK.

A spoof of vampire-themed movies, where teenager Becca finds herself torn between two boys. As she and her friends wrestle with a number of different dramas, everything comes to a head at their prom.  I normally like spoofs.  This one sucked, literally.  Of course, without Leslie Nielsen, no spoof will ever be the same again.

Well, that's all folks.  Hope everyone enjoyed my picks.  Hate on.

Have a Happy Monday.  ...^-^...

  1. Hold your horses Laila! Cable Guy? No way does that belong here. I can only assume that the purpose of the list is to test the discerning reader on their taste -- see if they let a classic like that slip through without contest. Well not today. I'm mad as hell and bla bla bla.

Seriously though, Cable Guy is an underrated gem; misunderstood and resigned to the budget bin for various reasons.

Chiefly amongst them, and the only one I will attempt to explain, is that when Cable Guy came out, people wanted something very different from Jim Carey. What they got instead was a clever social thriller thinly veiled as a black comedy. Just what does a lifetime of TV watching produce? Cable Guy attempts to answer that with disturbing consequences.

Did you know that it was originally pitched as a straight up thriller with Kevin Bacon as the lead? I actually use this film as a study in my media classes when I introduce the concept of Media Influence.

Watch it again, but this time, don't think of it as a Pet Detective, or Mask successor, think of it as the mid 90's answer to Single White Female.

And also, how could a dedicated trekkie not love the homage to 'Amok Time'? really, shame on you.

  2. LOL. Travis, I had no idea you were so passionate about Cable Guy. You seriously use this in school, or are you pulling my leg? I couldn't possibly submit myself to watching it again. The thought of it makes me cringe. Althought I will admire Jim Carrie's acting skills, the movie just plain pissed me off. Media Influence huh.

  3. Didn't like Indecent Proposal either. (Not into cheating movies - can you tell?) I did like Brother from Another Planet because I dig Joe Morton, but it has been a long time since I've seen it.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

  4. You hate the same movies I hate. Seriously, we have to be soul sisters or you're my twin and my crazy mother seperated us from birth. Didn't do this blogfest. I've got travel tales to tell.

  5. wrong, says sheldon cooper of movies... i cannot comment on these except world's greatest dad and indecent prop... it sets a bad tone for life. the rest i refer to my first statement.

i love bad/worst movies, these lists are tough!

  6. What a selection of movies. I loved your commentary. Awesome!

  7. Mars Attacks is genius. One of my all time favorite movies. It might be a guy thing.

  8. Here is where you disown me as a follower. I loved Killer Klowns from Outerspace. Not because it was good, but because it was so far into silliness that it was just funny. :) I wasn't a big fan of Freddy Got Fingered, but I did love, "Daddy would you like some sausage? Daddy would you like some sausages?" I still sing that some times. :)

  9. I've only seen one on your list and I will agree, I didn't like it. Bewitched. There was so much potential there and the movie missed big time.

  10. I hear you with Indecent Proposal. Especially when after the bet was done and then she starts dating the dude. Because that's a relationship built on trust and mutual respect. GAH!! I'm not a huge fan of the rubbery faced charm of Jim Carrey (did like Yes Man!). Cable Guy, black comedy or not, creeped me out.

  11. I luckily haven't seen any of these. I'm learning through this blogfest that I've lived a very sheltered movie life. And I'm good with that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. I haven't seen a single one of these, but I guess that's a good sign.

    ReplyDelete
  13. See, this is why I can't do this blogfest. I never watch stupid movies. I haven't seen any of these, probably because they sound so moronic. Why subject myself to that? I get enough of it just driving through my own neighborhood. Although I must admit, I actually paid to see "Being Human" years ago, but I walked out after the first 20 minutes. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I loved Kingpin and I especially loved the Cable Guy. Although I'm not sure you can really love the Cable Guy until you've been well and truly stalked so maybe that's why I liked it so much! Mars Attacks was beyond awful and yet most people I know loved it.

  15. @Anyone who didn't watch any of these movies. You didn't miss much.

@Anyone who did watch these movies. I comment you on your bravery.

@Anyone who liked any of these movies. You are of course entitled to your cup of tea.

@Anyone who liked Killer Klowns. Libby, that movie sucked big donkey ears. Sorry babe, gotta stick to my guns on this one.

...^-^... Thank you all for stopping by.

  16. commend, that should say commend...damn blogger and my typing. LOL. Nancy 20 minutes counts for a bit of needless suffering. Lisa, I just couldn't make it past the oral sex thing with Woody and the old lady.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I still want to see Vampires Suck, even if it is just as bad as the original Twilight movies. But I do agree with your analysis of Brother from Another Planet. Sci-fi shouldn't be trifled with, Hollywood!

    ReplyDelete
  18. It probably does me a disservice to say that I, or friends of mine, have often discussed at least half the movies on your list many times - usually to say how awesome they are.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief because I didn't like these movies either. Some so much I didn't bother watching. I know, how can I not like what I didn't see. Intuition.

I also didn't finish watching "Dances with Wolves." At the part where the soldiers started taunting the wolf, I got up and walked out. It felt as if the director was yelling at me, "Okay, this is the part in the movie where we'll show them torturing a wild animal because not much else has happened and we need a sob part."

Another movie that bugged the hell out of me was "Saving Private Ryan." I have a soldier son so I wanted to like this movie. But by the end I was furious. First of all, they show an old man with blue eyes at a cemetery. They do a close up of his blue eyes, then pull back and drop us right into a scene during WW2.

That wasn't the problem. But why no one else assumed those blue eyes were the same man still disturbs me. So, when Tom Hank's character (blue eyes) dies at the end, I was so angry I could have spit. I felt cheated, as if they'd played a trick on me and made me believe those eyes belonged to the same man.

And besides, where does Spielberg get off advertising that his movie is the greatest movie about WW2 ever filmed!

    From Here to Eternity
    Daz Boat
    Great Escape
    Battle of the Bulge

    to name a few...

  21. Totally agree with your list as well. Really bad and the sad thing is that's what's available to watch instantly on Netflix!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm with you on most everything on the list, but I did like Mars Attacks. It was bad, but in a fun way. I enjoy spoofs, too, but you're right about them. I miss Leslie Nielsen.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The only one I've seen is "Indecent Proposal" and I hated it. Looks like you made some great choices.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm sorry to hear that Vampires Suck was so bad . . . I love a good parody. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow! You picked some real stinkers!!! I saw Killer Klowns from Outer Space about 20 years ago on HBO. I must have been on something to watch that flick. It was really really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Killer Klowns is supposed to be bad. It's a B movie for people who like B movies. I love dark humor so I actually enjoyed Cable Guy. Vampires suck is part of the parody movies genre that I really can't stand unless it's done right. And it rarely is. I generally don't even watch them, that one included.

  27. Noooo, she hates Mars attacks!

  30. I saw Mars Attacks and Cable Guy, from the list above. I remember both being thoroughly mediocre. I didn't enjoy either, but I wouldn't put them on my worst list, either.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Have you ever seen The Room? You want a bad movie, that is it. Also a cult classic, just because it's so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The only one on your list that I saw was "THE CABLE GUY" and I gotta admit I kind of like it. However, it is such a very strange movie that I can certainly understand why many people might dislike it.

I thought it actually made a valid statement about current American society, however, granted it made its statement in a pretty bizarre, over-the-top fashion and it's certainly understandable if it's not everyone's cup of [your favorite beverage here] _______ .

Thank you for calling by and the comment, much appreciated.

  35. I loved the TV show reruns I watched as a kid. The movie was just awful!

  36. Wow, I agree with most of these movies, but a couple I haven't seen. Thank goodness. I totally agree with Indecent Proposal. SUCKED! Some hot rich guy can't find a girl of his own, he has to pay for a hooker... erm... some other guy's wife. XD Whatevs.

  37. I could probably do the worst books, but movies I rarely see. Actually, someone I know found The Brother from Another Planet hysterical..but I think it was because it was SO BAD. ~Mary

  38. Great list, Laila. I wanted to play in order to list Killer Klowns from Outer Space, but I couldn't think of any other sucky movies. Thank goodness.

  39. Somehow, I avoided all of the movies on your list in some kind of instinctual - yuck! - feeling I got just from the previews. So glad I missed out on them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was amused by Killer Clowns, but that sort of thing is my guilty pleasure ... maybe an illness. lol I agree on Indecent Purposal. It was a stupid plot.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I kinda enjoyed Killer Klowns.

And Vampires Suck is better than the Twilight movies!

Love what I have read of your blog so far.

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh, great picks - except for Mars Attacks, that one cracks me up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm surprised Mars Attacks didn't turn up on more lists. Also, regarding KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, the title should have been the first clue ;) hahahahah. Wait, I almost want to watch it for the laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Freddie Got Fingered made my list as well. I've seen Mars Attacks on several lists, but I can't remember hating that film. I didn't love it, though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh Laila I agree with you and I have to add Bruno where he twirls his....well, hope you never had to sit through that crap!

    ReplyDelete
  46. These all sound truly awful. I have to take your word for it though, because I have not watched a single one of these! Maybe I should count myself lucky :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh Bewitched! That was awful! I forgot all about it, that's how bad it was! Most of the other ones you listed, I've avoided because I saw potential disaster. I'll be sure to steer clear from them!

  48. We are not the same person AT ALL!
I watch Killer Klowns from Outerspace almost every Halloween.
I love The Cable Guy and Bewitched!
And Mars Attacks was bad but amusingly bad.

But we don't all have to agree.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I haven't seen many of these, but I totally agree with Indecent Proposal, that movie left me feeling disturbed. Didn't like it at all. I had really wanted to see Bewitched, because I loved that show when I was a kid, but heard so many bad reviews of it, I've still not seen it. That's too bad they changed it up so much, why must they screw up such a good thing??
Hope you have a fabulous day!

  58. I'm a new follower and absolutely in love with your blog!!! MADE OF AWESOME! I loved your list as well. Though I haven't seen Vampires SUck I'm sure you've nailed it just based on looks!

  59. Of the 10 I have only seen Indecent Proposal, and is certainly a bad movie, despite its stars in the cast. The rest I have not seen but can foresee its poor quality.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm glad to say I never watched any of those and now I probably never will. Thanks for sharing your humorous thoughts about them :)

  61. What? No 'Gigli'?
"Mars Attacks" makes me laugh because it's so frikkin' stupid.
A movie that I absolutely cannot stand (which quite a few people actually like) is "Rudy." To most, it was the story of a plucky, never-say-die hard charger.
To me, it was a whiny tale of a walking tackling dummy who never woke up and smelled the coffee, but got put into a game on a "pity" move by the coach.
